The A stands for the type of engine was used(4A-GE) the E stands for the body style/chassis (a Corolla) the 8 stands for the generation and the 6 stands for the what iteration of the generation it is. Pretty simple stuff, but some people may not know it!

It's like that for all Toyotas.
My Supra was an MA70. M = 7m, A = Supra, 7= 3rd gen 0 = Non turbo.

Yup, AW11, KE70, RA22. Except the GT86 I think they used a Subaru code or something, it is ZN6.

Isn't it weird how everyone else uses alphanumerics but we Americans tend to "name" or engines? i.e. "Coyote", "Magnum", "Modular".

Neat :)

Yes sir! A 2JZ swap would be JE86, you keep the first letter of the engine code. The fact the Supra is called JZA is just a coincidence!
